Hello friends!
I hope you’re enjoying your Labor Day weekend. Many of my travels and green beauty finds fail to make it to this online space, so today I’m turning things around by sharing a few pictures from my time in Boulder City, Nevada.
One of the only two cities in Nevada that prohibits gambling, Boulder City is about 25 miles southeast of Las Vegas and one of my favorite places to “get away.” I like the slower pace and the fact that many of the businesses here are locally owned.
If you enjoy shopping for antiques, supporting local artists, learning local history or spending time outdoors, consider visiting this gem of a town when you’re in the Las Vegas area!
Bloom
Now, this is my kind of store! Bloom is a vintage, salvage, and design boutique that offers home remodeling and craft workshops. Bloom sells artisan soaps and candles, hand-painted furniture, clothing, beautiful journals, Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan, and home decor.
I spent the majority of my time in Boulder City here in this shop, because just look at this place:

I purchased the Mountain Berry Parfait candle by Swan Creek Candle Co. It. Smells. So. Good. The candle is made with clean-burning, lead-free 100% American soybean wax and is so, so fragrant. The other scents were amazing as well, but this one won me over. The sticker removes very easily, which is a huge plus!
Also at Bloom, I purchased an artisan soap handcrafted in Las Vegas from Dee’s Little Soap Shop. Cruelty-free and free of palm oil, phthalates, and sulfates, this Lychee Red Tea Coconut Soap is made with coconut oil, sea salt, natural fragrance, and colorant.
Bloom also has a Las Vegas and Henderson locations, so you have three opportunities to fall in love with this gorgeous boutique! I plan to attend a workshop soon.

Boulder Theater
I snapped a quick pic of Boulder Theater, a place where local artists and dancers perform and the home of the Dam Short Film Festival. A quick Google search revealed that Hoover Dam workers once paid 25 cents to see a movie there. A lot has changed since 1933!

Boulder City Public Art Scape

Scattered throughout downtown Boulder City you’ll find art from the Boulder City Public Art Scape. If you don’t have any concrete plans for the day, walking around town in search of more than 30 creative sculptures in this exhibit should entertain you well enough.

The Flying Saucer – Area 52
I didn’t have time to get abducted, so I snapped a quick pic and ran. If you’re braver than me, stop into The Flyer Saucer – Area 52 for beer, wine, and a quick snack while you stock up on alien gifts and souvenirs.

Lake Mead Cruises
Lake Mead Cruises offers year-round daily sightseeing on Lake Mead. I still had pictures in my phone from a recent time aboard the Desert Princess, so you’re in luck. If you have a couple hours to spare, choose from midday sightseeing, their seasonal Sunday champagne brunch cruise, or their evening excursion. My mother and I enjoyed our midday cruise which gave us a great view of Hoover Dam!

Boulder Dam Hotel
Not just a temporary home for Boulder City guests, Boulder Dam Hotel is home to the Boulder City Hoover Dam Museum and the Boulder City Art Guild & Gallery. The Hoover Dam Museum offers a nice peek into the lives of the men and women behind the Boulder Canyon Project. Look for the collection of art from Boulder City artists on the second floor, but put your phone away!

Boulder City Antique Market
I always stop by the Boulder City Antique Market when I’m in BC. This antique shop and auction house has just about everything you can think of — furniture, antiques, art, jewelry, neon signs, and wacky stuff that reminds me that I live in the middle of nowhere. This time I picked up two necklaces for $3 each. Auctions here run every first and third Friday at 6PM.

Chilly Jilly’z
One doesn’t visit Boulder City without checking out Chilly Jilly’z. I always feel like I’m on vacation when I visit grub spots you can’t find anywhere else. I love the pineapple Dole Soft Serve. It’s gluten-free and vegan with no cholesterol or artificial colors. Oh, and delicious. It’s really delicious.

More to Explore!
If any of these snaps piqued your interest, there’s much more to explore! I’ll be back soon to experience the Nevada Southern Railway Museum, Frank T Crowe Memorial Park, Boulder Bowl, Bicentennial Park, and Veteran’s Memorial Park. There are also quirky-looking motels in the area, and places to grab a bite. Milo’s Cellar & Inn is a wine bar, cafe restaurant, and Tuscan-themed bed and breakfast loved by locals.
Visit for a few hours of wine sampling at one of four Boulder City Wine Walks happening this year, or check out Boulder City’s annual Art in the Park event that brings in over 100,000 visitors every fall.
I hope you enjoyed my Boulder City recap! Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend. Talk soon.
Until soon.
