Candace Aliké Smith — A Writer's Self Care Journal

“I’m going to make everything around me beautiful. That will be my life.”

Elsie de Wolfe

Hey there. I’m Candace.

Welcome to my little corner of the web. I’m a marketing writer, matcha enthusiast, and mom of one living and learning in the ‘burbs of Dallas. I founded this site in 2015 to help women of color find non-toxic health and beauty products. Since then, the content has expanded to include herbs and oils, journaling, local sips, and travel. My mom Cherise pops in monthly to offer valuable mental health and mindfulness content as well.

I recently traded the dizzying pace of social media for unhurried moments to reflect in this space. Email me at hello@candacealikesmith.com if you’d like to talk about tea or matters of the heart.

Be well.

“One day to collect the scattered fragments of myself, and give them symmetry, and wholeness, and use.”

— Muriel Strode (1875–1964), My Little Book of Life, 1912

I received this pretty purple shade in the February Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. Raga Varnish is a cruelty-free, vegan nail polish company made in the US. […] Read more

    Sparitual Nail Color

Good morning, beautiful people. This morning I painted my nails with an old favorite – Sparitual “On The Dunes,” a gorgeous pale gold shimmer. The shade was the perfect compliment to my dark complexion and works well with the black-white-tan wardrobe color scheme I’ve been rocking for the past few months. What are your favorite […] Read more

No, Sis. You Don’t Have the Same 24 Hours as Beyonce.

Hello there, beautiful people. I’m sure you’ve heard or read the following lie before: “You have the same 24 hours as Beyonce.” Um, yeah. Actually, no. You don’t have the same 24 hours. You don’t even have 24 hours. Beyonce doesn’t either. If you subtract the 8 hours that we’re supposed to be sleeping, and […] Read more

But if I’ve learned anything in the last 30 years, I’ve learned that life is hard. Sometimes, it’s […] Read more

Improve Your Complexion and Skin Tone with Yarrow

Millefoil. Carpenter’s weed. Soldier’s woundwort. Bloodwort. Seemingly non-related utterances, yet these names all refer to the same plant capable of stopping a nosebleed or preventing a sneeze. Yarrow, botanical name Achillea millefolium, is a flowering perennial roadside weed that also thrives in wasteland and meadows. Common in North America, yarrow is also native to Europe […] Read more
