Candace Aliké Smith, MAOL
Hey! Thanks for stopping by. I’m a mom, writer, and lifestyle blogger based in North Texas. I founded this site in 2015 to help women of color reclaim their natural birthright of health and vitality. I’m so grateful for the places this community has taken me physically and spiritually.
How It Started
My communications career began 17 years ago as a beat reporter and copy editor for Indiana University’s campus newspaper. In my early writing days, I wrote for community newspapers and contributed health-related articles for online media publications. I spent six years working for San Diego non-profit agencies, helping with grassroots efforts to provide housing for homeless veterans, HIV testing for at-risk populations, and meals and education for underserved children and their families. I’ve contributed to email marketing campaigns, company presentations, pitch decks, social media captions, blog posts, and B2B and B2C articles. If you’re out shopping, you might see my words on FOREO shelves at retailers like Sephora, Ulta Beauty, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Lord & Taylor.
Working with marginalized communities inspired my interest in accessible wellness and inclusive clean beauty practices. This interest bloomed into a fully-realized mission in the Spring of 2013 when I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. I immersed myself in research to study the connection between the mind, body, and spirit, and honestly believe health in one area is contingent upon health in all others.
How It’s Going
On most days, you’ll find me at a locally-owned café drinking a matcha latte or lost in somebody’s garden. I write and blog full-time from my Dallas home. I am the proud mother of a brilliant, beautiful girl.
Cherise Young is a paid contributor on the site and also my awesome mom! She offers valuable mental health content. Give her a call at (972) 729-9356 to learn more about her coaching and consultation services.
