Juanita Henderson’s journey began with a mother’s love, wanting her daughters to embrace their natural hair and skin.
When her children expressed discomfort about wearing their natural hair, this Fort Wayne, Indiana mother transformed her concern into action, creating the Chocolate Kinks & Kurls (CKK) brand.
As a Kurl Koach, Henderson developed specialized hair and skin care products for African Americans. What started in 2012 as a local drugstore venture evolved into Kurl Talks, personalized coaching sessions, and finally a comprehensive hair care line.
The CKK collection now features approximately twelve products, primarily focusing on natural hair care, with one body care product called Her Bar. Understanding diverse hair care needs, CKK offers bundled product sets tailored to specific requirements. Products are available at Henderson’s Fort Wayne location and through their website.
The product names evoke desserts and beverages, appealing to both sight and scent.
One Instagram reviewer noted that using the Cocoa Crème Clay Wash left them smelling and feeling like hot chocolate. This particular product promises to clean, detangle, and condition hair.
The brand maintains competitive pricing and features a user-friendly website where customers can easily access ingredient lists. Many products emphasize their pH-balancing properties for hair and skin health.
Despite the brand’s expansion, Henderson maintains personal connections with her customers through online consultations.
She continues to provide Kurl Koaching sessions for those transitioning from chemically-treated to natural hair. Beyond product development, CKK prioritizes educating customers about different hair type needs.
